Obituary for Chad Joseph Ewings

Chad Joseph Ewings, age 40, of Millcreek Twp., passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, October 5, 2017, following a brave battle with cancer. He was born in Olean, NY on March 14, 1977, a son of Arthur L. and Susan E. (Kerr) Ewings of Duke Center, PA.

Chad was a 1995 graduate of Otto-Eldred High School and a 1999 graduate of Mercyhurst University where he earned a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education. He furthered his education at Gannon University where he earned a Master’s Degree in Education and a graduate certificate in principal certification. Chad was a much loved fifth grade teacher at Union City Area Elementary School. He served as a junior high football and track and field throwers coach for the Union City School District. Chad was also previously employed by the Port Allegheny and City of Erie School Districts.

Chad was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also enjoyed water and snow skiing, golfing, running (he had participated in numerous marathons), fantasy football (having served as the commissioner of the Duke Center Fantasy Football League for 20 years) and riding his motorcycle. Most of all, Chad loved spending time with his family and friends and cherished his wife and children.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Bradley Scott Ewings and his two grandfathers, Don Kerr and Robert Ewings.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 14 years, Emily M. (Amann) Ewings, whom he married June 28, 2003; his twins, Maria Elizabeth and Evan Joseph; one sister, Kristen E. Ewings of Edinboro; his two grandmothers, Betty Kerr of Duke Center, PA and Hazel Ewings of Jamestown, NY; his mother and father-in-law, Palma and Harry Amann of Erie; two brothers-in-law, Harry Amann (Jackie) of Cincinnatti, OH and Joseph Amann (Molly) of Erie; two nieces, Audrey and Kelsey Amann and two nephews, Joseph and Michael Amann. Chad is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

Family and friends may call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek), on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a prayer service there on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James R.C. Church at 11 a.m. celebrated by Rev. James McCormick. A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center (designated to sarcoma research), 2010 E. 90th St., Cleveland, OH 44106.
