Obituary for Marjorie Ann Hammers

Marjorie Ann “Margie” Burick Hammers, age 87, of Lawrence Park Twp., passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at her son Robert’s residence, following a brief illness. She was born in Erie on August 18, 1930, a daughter of the late Paul G. and Mary Ella (Noyes) Burick.

Margie was a 1948 graduate of the former Lawrence Park High School. She was a dedicated homemaker who loved caring for her family and maintaining her gardens at home. Margie was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church where she participated in the Parish Action League. She was an avid golfer and was a member of the Lawrence Park Golf Club. Margie also participated in the General Electric Exempt Retirees activities and enjoyed birdwatching.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Robert C. Hammers. He passed away on January 24, 2011. Margie was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ann Wegener and two brothers, Tom and Jim Burick.
Margie is survived by three children: Robert M. Hammers (Debbie) of Lawrence Park, Richard A. Hammers (Julie) of Millcreek and Carolyn S. Hammers of Lawrence Park; one sister, Julie Hewitt (Hal) of Millcreek; seven grandchildren: Christin, Rachael, Megan, Ryley, Cali, Becker and Mason; four great-grandchildren: Michael, Emma, Jack, and Claire and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek), on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Tuesday at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church at 10 a.m. The Reverend Mark A. Hoffman, Pastor, will preside. Margie will be laid to rest next to her husband at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Mass.
